Not satisfied with bombing the shit out of other nation states ‘Team America’ has just spent $79 million to ‘bomb’ the moon in the name of science. America, fuck yeah!

Update. This article points out a child dies every 8 seconds from contaminated water. How far would $79 million go to solve that problem?

well, wouldn’t finding a huge frozen water reserve on the moon help the impoverished without clean water? Now, if we can just find a way to get them to the moon or vice versa…

But seriously, $79 million is really not that much, and while the “boys and their toys” argument is an easy one to make for NASA expenditure, there is the flip-side that it is also an investment in innovation that has massive trickle-down effects and improve [many people’s] lives.

this might be interesting. I can think of only one off the top of my head – solar panels. I don’t think someone who doesn’t have access to clean water could afford (or need) even one of them. Australia as a nation has not taken full advantage of them.

    Any others?
